The harbor of Dongshih in the late morning light
This was a nice walk, incorporating more typical Southwest Coast views in fine weather, and the lovely pastoral and tranquil Aogu Wetlands.
Literally piles of oyster shells lying around everywhere.
The temple, and other local scenes.
Mr and Mrs Chiayi: what kind of mushrooms were those?
As always, back to walking by the sea.
A smaller harbor just to the north, Weigang.
A boy playing "fort" in some pier stones filled with - you guessed it - oyster shells.
Still more piles and piles of oyster shells.
Country womenfolk working the shell fields.
Coast guard station.
Almost there!
The Aogu Wetlands park is more than just wetlands. Drained by the Japanese, it became a sugar cane plantation. When this became uneconomical, other types of farming were adopted, but on a minor scale. The park is largely undeveloped and surprisingly clean, lovely and uncrowded. Definitely a place worth visiting on a nice day if you are in the area.

Scenes from the park.
Duck blind, for viewing.
Birdies!
Wings
