Day 53: Linyuan to Kaohsiung

A touch of art brightens up an industrial zone

I was back in Linyuan, an industrulized area just south of Kaohsiung, and actually quite a fascinating one to explore. The large-scale industrial facilities, with the inevitable pollution and blight on the landscape, contrasted interestingly with the blue-collar communities that housed many of the workers, and the remnants of pre-industrial communities.

A blue-collar street
A traditional house, looking old and dis-used

A colorful splash of art

Cute little temple

A few timeless, traditional scenes

Again with the irrigation pipes!

Oy vay!

A water obstacle to my progress, not least because of pollution

Pumping water, but probably not for drinking, in polluted Linyuan.

A self-service water station

Old part of the street

Two-storey older traditional buildings like this are fairly rare.

Forest-like profusion of cherry pickers

A small port area just as I was coming into Siaogang

Small compared to Kaohsiung harbor, at least, but some big lines.

Chillin' with family, fishing rod and cellphone.

Sunset amidst clouds, ships waiting to enter harbor.

Getting closer to Kaohsiung harbor

A very clean and friendly pack of strays

This perky little petroleum mascot bid me a cheerful bye bye from Linyuan
