Day 82: Yongan Fishery Harbor to Zhuwei Fishery Harbor (June 1st, 2014)

Yongan Fishery Harbor
The penultimate day! The excitement was building
The day started out nicely enough, with the familiar seaside trails and gentle weather. But then, alas! It ended rather grimly in a heavy industrial zone.
But Yongan fishery harbor was nice enough. I have a weakness for fishery harbors!

The way north

Muddy river contraption
The trial for a while followed a muddy river, with birds and some teenagers who seemed irrationally optimistic about the cleanliness of the water. The terrain was nice enough, though.

What could possibly go wrong?

Toward the industrial park
Gradually, the touristyness faded and the industrialness started to assert itself more and more.

Wind whipping up dust

Perky little oil drop!

Industrial park: production hidden behind trees

Not so hidden

A rather drab beach

Part of the Taoyuan Seaside Trail!

As the light started to fade, I realized I was marooned on the coast road, and the beaches were crossed regularly by rivers that were full of some really nasty toxic stuff. One of them was so pad that I felt a strange itching deep in my sinuses when I sniffed the air over it!

Filth rivers

Heavy industry

Abandoned farm

Industrial building in the twilight
After the light faded, I kept on the road. There were huge trucks that didn't see me until the last moment, and noisy, aggressive junkyard dogs that chased me until my artillery fire of random rocks caused them to retreat. Finally, after hours of weary trudging, I arrived at Zhuwei Fishery Harbor, where I was able to call a taxi home to Danshui.

The end was nigh!
